No new finished work just yet….

but getting closer.

Master study of Giovanna Garzoni’s Plate of Beans, by Lori Lukasewich.

Many of my students know that I discovered an old master artist that I had never heard of before, because she was a woman, of course, and I’m so excited about her. Her love of paint and the things she painted is so obvious in her work. Her name was Giovanna Garzoni and she was born in 1600. She could charge any price for her works , and the Medici did commission a number of her paintings. The above painting is my master study of her Plate of beans, which I had originally seen as an overblown and decolourized print at my local Earls restaurant some years ago. I was thrilled to find out who the original artist was. She has inspired me to a new series… not quite where I want them to go yet.

Works in progress…
My studio wall easel at the moment…
